About Obakki
Obakki is a leading lifestyle brand from Vancouver that offers curated, ethically sourced and handmade artisan products. Founded in 2005 by Treana Peake and her passion for travel and design, their products are one of a kind, limited quantity items that bring meaning and connection to your home. The Obakki Foundation is it’s philanthropic arm that brings together change makers for communities in need.
Web Design Goals
Obakki partnered with us during a critical juncture in it’s evolution, transforming from a ready to wear fashion label, to a brand that promotes slow design. While most traditional e-commerce websites focus on highlighting products, the primary focus for Obakki are their artisans and it’s values of sustainable consumption. This became the primary consideration for most design choices related to images, colors, fonts, layouts and copy.
Website Design Overview
Having shortlisted Shopify as their e-commerce platform, we commenced the design process with the crucial step of theme selection. The importance of understanding key requirements, and identifying a theme that can support most of them cannot be over-emphasized at this stage.
To simplify this, we prepared a comparative chart that highlighted key strengths for each theme under consideration. The objective criterion was further complemented by our personal experience and anecdotes from past projects, and also from recent reviews. On finalizing the theme, our next step was to provide a near visual representation for each page through wireframes. Similar to blueprints when building a home, wireframes help spotlight key considerations at an early stage, thereby reducing the need for design iterations
THE END RESULT – OBAKKI WEBSITE
Our final website design ended up truly highlighting the uniqueness of Obakki and it’s values. To accomplish this we augmented theme features with Shopify apps, social media integrations and extensive custom web development. Our close collaboration with the Obakki team has helped put in place a solid foundation that can drive their vision forward, and power e-commerce growth over the coming years
